Minicam team
ABC Minicam's management, technical and multimedia expertise will be an asset to your project.
Gerry Justus, Minicam Project Manager
Gerry is ABC Minicam's Project Manager, leading its miniature camera and links projects nationally and internationally.
In 2005 and 2006 he attracted several new clients, including the sports of gliding and cycling, to supplement the strong motor racing coverage reputation that ABC Minicam has earned.
Gerry took over ABC Minicam in late 2004 from one of Minicam's founders Steve Pickering, who retired after more than 40 years with the ABC. But Gerry's ABC Minicam involvement is not new!
Gerry was a Technical Manager in ABC Victoria Technical Services from 1997 to 2004. In addition to his staff, equipment and budget management responsibilities in the ABC's Technical Services area, Gerry was involved with many aspects of ABC Minicam for six years including operational duties on location, quoting, surveying and promotion. He became well known to many of our clients across the Asia Pacific where ABC Minicam has long-term relationships in countries including Macau, Korea and Brunei.
Gerry played a lead role in securing Minicam's annual Tour de Langkawi bicycle race coverage in Malaysia. He has also been instrumental in the implementation of new technologies including electronics such as microwave and digital linking, cable and fibre services, interactive multi-media programming and software development.
Gerry Justus will draw on expertise from across the ABC and in recent years the team has enhanced minicam coverage with live GPS Graphics, 3D animation and telemetry, allowing viewers to monitor everything from car speed to drivers’ heart rates. Working with Gerry for clients including Network 10, Global Television and Fox Sports are: Sam Grasso (Engineer), David Dickinson (Engineer) and Steve Maxfield (Engineer), to name a few.
Gerry Justus' involvement with the technical and production side of television commenced in the 1970s with a Communications and Electronics Higher Technicians Certificate. Over the years he has worked extensively on outside broadcast, production, installation of new broadcast equipment and engineering workshop management.
His skills and expertise were perfectly suited to the planning and delivery of ABC Minicam services across six sports and the opening and closing ceremonies of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
In the lead up, Gerry worked on the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, on the live broadcast of Sailing events. This involved planning, pre-testing, rigging of helicopters, rigging onboard cameras on competitors' yachts, liaising with competitors and officials, rigging and operation of ground receive equipment.
Gerry speaks fluent German and has travelled the world for the ABC including training technical and production staff at Cambodia's government television network.
Given ABC Minicam's extensive involvement in high-speed sports coverage, Gerry's spare time pursuits lend further suitability to his appointment, as he has designed and constructed high performance rally cars.
