Resonator: Creating music with a fence

Artspace Mackay
Artspace Mackay is the second regional art gallery to have a AAA rated international standard museum exhibition space. A joint funding partnership between the Mackay City Council and the Commonwealth and Queensland governments, it features both visiting exhibitions from throughout Australia as well as permanent exhibitions that have been specifically created for the gallery.

Big Screen 2002
The Big Screen film festival will tour regional and rural areas showcasing the gems of Australian film. The program includes rarely seen archival footage from each region, the latest Australian feature films and forums with filmmakers and actors. Last year Big Screen reached over 29,000 Australians in 22 regional cinemas across the country.

Design = Furniture + Fibre : Tasmanian Furniture Designers
Furniture as aesthetic objects may be the new oeuvre, but when it comes to innovative, edgy design, furniture designers in Hobart are producing some incredible new forms. Two recent exhibitions at the Salamanca Arts centre in Hobart, 'Design = Furniture + Fibre 2002' and 'Hub – Young Designers', gave local designers and makers a showcase for recent work.

Tasmania's New Millenium Museum: Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery
There is something brewing in the Tasmanian city of Launceston. In November last year it opened the doors of the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery at Inveresk, a world-class conversion of the historic railway yards into an arts precinct. This gave the small Launceston community of 65,000 people the fifth largest museum and art gallery in the country.

The Great Hypocritical
The Great Hypocritical was an innovative, cabaret-style hypothetical initiated by the Byron Shire Council, and devised and hosted by local artist Stella Kinsella. The Council wanted to educate local residents and business people about a range of controversial compliance issues, including illegal buildings, onsite effluent management systems, pet registration, busking and footpath dining. Above all, they wanted the issues to be presented in an entertaining and non-threatening forum.

From its first staging in 1990, the Wangaratta Jazz Festival became recognised as Australia's premier jazz event.
