For well over a decade NMA has kept Australia informed about what's what in new Australian music. John Crawford began the program as Random Round in 1990, before handing over to young composer Julian Day in 2001.

Whether it's a new Australian symphony, a gritty laptop improvisation or a pop song for amplified string quartet, NMA is often first to bring you the strangest, the strongest and the most sublime new sounds around.

Over the years we've talked music with hundreds of guests, and premièred well over 2,000 new works, on average 5-10 pieces per week. The majority of them are written and performed by our very own composers, performers and sound artists.

NMA also host major awards (see our archives below), and the team is frequently airborne to cover concerts and festivals around the country.
