The Council usually meets three times a year. At each meeting Council formulates a series of recommendations which are then presented to ABC Executives and the ABC Board for consideration.

Council has examined issues such as Education and Children's programs,Youth programs, Multiculturalism, Music, Women's Sport, News and Current Affairs, Program Standards, Proposed Changes to ABC Charter, Impact of Funding Cuts, Science Programming, Language and Violence. Council also has a continuing monitoring function on key issues such as local service delivery.
