The ABC Advisory Council (ABCAC), or more formally the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Advisory Council, is established under the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Act 1983. All appointments to the ABC Advisory Council are made by the ABC Board.
Advertising for new members on radio and television begins in late October or early November each year. Appointments are usually for a term of up to four years. There are normally three to four vacancies to be filled each year so that not all vacancies fall due at the same time to allow some continuity.
Council members are selected for their ability to provide broad representation of the community. Members are drawn from diverse age groups, backgrounds and locations.
