Mad Max meets Macca
It is seven years since ABC rural radio producer Drew Radford broke out of the confines of his Adelaide studio and rode off on his first sabbatical. Since then he and his trusty motorbike have clocked up more than 70,000 kilometres, gathering stories from rural and remote communities across the country. On the latest leg of his adventures, the 'Bloke on the bike' is in Western Australia's wheat belt.
The Shooting Party
The nation's largest hunting club, Field and Game Australia, was formed 50 years ago to preserve swamps for shooting. But these days it is custodian of some othe the country's most important wetlands and is actively involved in efforts to safeguard the natural environment for future generations. The ABC warns that this report contains images that some viewers may find confronting.
Sheffield's Shield
It is mental health week and communities big and small are reflecting on the appalling reality that Australia is losing one person every five hours to suicide. Deaths have a profound impact wherever they occur, but when it is in the bush, they rock small communities to their foundations. Towns like Sheffield in Tasmania, Donald in Victoria and Ayr in north Queeensland all have something very positive in common when it comes to preventing suicide.
