The rumours of problems in Australian rock band Wolfmother's camp have proven to be true, with the trio announcing that bass and keyboard player Chris Ross and drummer Myles Heskett have resigned, effective immediately.

According to a statement from the Grammy Award-winning band, Ross is leaving due to irreconcilable personal and musical differences, while Heskett does not want to be part of a changed line-up.

Singer and guitarist Andrew Stockdale is going to find other musicians and begin making a new Wolfmother album, the statement says.

Heskett and Ross have been working together on songs for some time and they plan focus more on that new project.

Wolfmother played at the Splendour In The Grass music festival in Byron Bay at the weekend, but that appearance was even plagued by rumours of a possible line-up change.

The band toured nationally and internationally throughout much of 2006 and early 2007 after the release of their acclaimed self-titled debut album, which received multiple ARIA awards and a Grammy.

Long-standing frictions within the group then lead them to take an extended break during the second half of 2007 to consider their future, but they later regrouped to work on a new album.

The group have shared stages with renowned bands including Pearl Jam, The Who and The Strokes.

Stockdale, Heskett and Ross say that they are each really looking forward to making their new music over the years ahead.

The statement says they want their fans "to please understand that in spite of their best efforts over a long period of time, they just could not find a harmonious way to work together and that has lead to the decisions announced today".
