Cable damage cuts Kempsey communication

Posted August 20, 2008 07:40:00

Telstra says it is investigating a breakdown in phone and internet services in the Kempsey area yesterday.

Several local businesses lost the internet for most of the working day after a fibre cable was damaged.

The local council and a number of residents were left without a landline phone service.

Telstra's May Boysen says services were restored by mid-afternoon.

"We received a call we had a fibre issue up at South Kempsey, our guys went out there as quickly as they could to have a look what the issue was," he said.

"We're still investigating what the issue is, but it did affect a lot of the data services up there."
