Power cut under investigation

Posted August 20, 2008 07:44:00

The APA electricity network says it is working to prevent a repeat of Monday night's power cut across the New South Wales far north coast.

Country Energy and Transgrid say the power cut to 60,000 homes and businesses was not their fault.

But APA's operations manager, Peter Benham, says the two networks appear to have been down at the same time.

He says that overloaded the control system that dispatches power between Queensland and NSW.

Mr Benham says steps are being taken to avoid a similar event.

"It's not something that happens on a regular basis," he said.

"From this particular event our engineering group are actually investigating the cause of the problem.

"From the investigation they should come up with some recommendations to rectify that so it doesn't occur again."
