Police quiz youths over attempted car thefts

Posted August 21, 2008 08:38:00

Investigations are continuing into a spate of attempted car thefts in the Casino area.

Police say two youths have been interviewed about the incidents but no arrests have yet been made.

Inspector Scott Bingham says vehicles in the Casino, Lismore and Kyogle areas have been targeted.

He says windows, steering locks and ignitions have been damaged.

Inspector Bingham says police caught one young man near one of the theft attempts.

"We've had a spike of people breaking into cars and trying to steal them, and they've all occurred within walking distance to each other," he said.

"Patrols came across one of the youths, we believe two youths were involved.

"He was questioned as to his reasons for being out in the area at the time. No one's actually been charged at this stage."
