Raider Learoyd-Lahrs suspended over dangerous throw

Canberra Raiders forward Tom Learoyd-Lahrs has lost his bid to have a dangerous throw charge downgraded at the NRL judiciary.

He had disputed the grading of his charge, but was last night suspended for seven matches.

It is a blow for the in-form Raiders. Learoyd-Lahrs has been one of Canberra's best forwards in their recent run of good performances.

The suspension ends his season, even if the Raiders make the grand final there are not enough matches left in 2008 for him to complete the ban.

The Raiders were unhappy with the outcome. They had tried to have the grading of the charge changed from grade four to grade two or three, citing other dangerous throws as evidence.

But the panel did not accept their argument.

Also last night, Wests Tigers forward Corey Payne accepted a one-match ban for making unnecessary contact with the face of a Parramatta player.
