Residents quizzed in liveability audit

Posted August 21, 2008 09:33:00

North Queenslanders are being asked what is missing that could make the region more attractive to new residents.

The Regional Economic Development Corporation is conducting a phone survey of people in the Mackay, Whitsunday and central highlands areas as part of a liveability audit.

The corporation's chief executive, Narelle Pearse, says there is a real need to identify what is missing, with one person indicating that is the key to keeping people in the region.

"Often it's not difficult to ... attract people to the region, but it is difficult to have them stay," she said.

"I think the term he used was, 'if mum doesn't like it, then the family's not staying' and that's obviously a big issue."
