Jobs to go at Ararat electrical parts maker

Posted August 28, 2008 10:30:00

The National Union of Workers says 40 jobs will be cut from an electrical parts manufacturer in western Victoria.

AME Systems, in Ararat, provides parts to several industries, including car makers.

The union will meet AME staff this morning.

The Victorian secretary, Antony Thow, says it is a consequence of the recent car industry job losses.

"It's a very disappointing time for the employees there and for the area," he said.

"It is a result of the downturn in the automotive sector, particularly Ford's redundancies, so it's a big concern to us and the wider community."
