Pair escape Ballarat house blaze

Posted August 29, 2008 09:16:00

Two people have escaped unharmed from a blaze which destroyed their home in Ballarat this morning.

The fire started in the brick house on Scenic Crescent, in the city's north, just before 6:00am AEST.

The Country Fire Authority says the house was engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived.

A man and a woman who live there say they were woken by the noise of the blaze and fled the house.

It is unclear whether the home had smoke alarms.

The two neighbouring houses were threatened by fire, but fire crews stopped its spread shortly after 6:00am.

Fire investigators are at the scene trying to determine how the blaze started.

The damage bill is expected to be several hundred thousand dollars.
