Market buoyed by banking sector

Strength in the banking sector has pushed the Australian share market higher.

At about 12:00pm AEST, the All Ordinaries index was up 71 points to 5,215. The ASX 200 gained 1.5 per cent to 5,140.

The Australian dollar was fetching 86.44 US cents.
