The trial for Gordon Wood, the man accused of murdering model Caroline Byrne, has heard there were rumours he was having an affair with his employer Rene Rivkin.

Forty-five-year-old Gordon Wood has pleaded not guilty to throwing his girlfriend Caroline Byrne off a cliff in eastern Sydney in 1995.

The Crown is arguing he had a motive to kill her, because she knew too much about his employer Rene Rivkin's business affairs.

Under cross examination, Caroline Byrne's father Anthony said his daughter's former boyfriend and close friend Andrew Blanchette told him he had heard gossip that Wood and Mr Rivkin were having an affair.

But Mr Byrne said he thought Mr Blanchette made that comment because he had strong feelings for Ms Byrne.

Mr Byrne denied his daughter was depressed before her death.

The trial continues.
