Palerang Council to develop climate change policy

Posted August 29, 2008 18:23:00

The Palerang Council will develop its own climate change policy.

The policy will include reducing the impact council operations have on the environment, including car and road equipment pollution.

Water allocation and conservation will also be an issue at the Palerang Council election in two weeks.

Councillor Terry Bransdon says it is unacceptable that a farmer has twice the annual water allocation than for the 2,800 residents.

"It's a pretty whacky situation that a farmer can get an allocation, or have an allocation of 700 megalitres a year when a neighbouring town, just beside that farm has an allocation of only just a little over 300 megalitres," he said.
