Inquest told miners not reporting rockfalls

Posted September 5, 2008 10:47:00

The technical geologist at the Beaconsfield Gold mine has revealed he was frustrated that miners were not formally reporting rockfalls before a fatal collapse two years ago.

Geologist Adrian Penney has given evidence at the Launceston inquest into the death of miner Larry Knight on Anzac Day, 2006.

Mr Penney was shown an email from his manager one month before the collapse which expressed concern that miners were not filling out rockfall report cards.

Mr Penney told the inquest he shared this concern because there were details about smaller rockfalls in the mine that were not being passed on.

The underground manager, Pat Ball, has now taken the stand.
