Man 'kicked officer during league brawl'

Posted September 8, 2008 11:00:00

A man has been charged with assaulting a police officer during a football match on the New South Wales north coast yesterday.

Police say a number of officers were patrolling a rugby league grand final at Woolgoolga, north of Coffs Harbour, when a brawl broke out between about 10 spectators.

It is alleged a senior constable was kicked in the head and collapsed while trying to break up the fight.

She was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital and has since been released.

A 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene and charged with assaulting a police officer.

He will appear in court later this month.
