Rugby ref Vanderfield dies

Well-known Australian rugby union referee and administrator Dr Roger Vanderfield has died at the age of 80.

Dr Vanderfield refereed more than 1,200 matches between 1952 and 1976, and was the president of New South Wales Rugby Union and Australian Rugby Union during the 1980s.

He also served as chairman of the International Rugby Board.

He died on Thursday night in Sydney, with his funeral to be held next Friday.
