Cronulla rugby league player Greg Bird, due to appear in court next week charged with maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm, is to face further charges on other offences.

Police say they will lay charges of public mischief and false accusation arising from an incident at a block of flats in Cronulla last month.

Bird's 24-year-old girlfriend underwent surgery at the Prince of Wales Hospital for glass wounds to her eye, which were allegedly inflicted at the unit block.

Bird has also been given a notice to attend court for common assault over an alleged incident involving another woman at a nightclub in Cronulla in January.
