Blackbutt to host habitat creation workshop

Posted October 6, 2008 11:37:00

A workshop teaching residents in southern Wollongong and in Shellharbour how to support native plant species will be run this month at Blackbutt.

Residents can learn how to make a habitat creation, how to identify common weed species and tips for building a vegetable garden.

A spokeswoman for Sustainable Illawarra, Tuesday Heather, says participants will learn skills for attracting wildlife to their gardens.

"The workshops been designed to show residents how they can support local wildlife by creating a habitat that offers, food, water, shelter and a breathing space for local species," she said.

"It also helps try to link these bits of vegetation so they do have a wide area in which they can forage."

Bookings for the workshops on October 18 can be made through Shellharbour council.
