Eye of the Storm on '09 GF, says Smith

Posted October 7, 2008 10:01:00

Melbourne Storm captain Cam Smith says the disappointment of Sunday's grand final thrashing will inspire them to make a fourth straight decider in 2009.

The Storm beat Manly to claim the 2007 premiership, but the Sea Eagles exacted revenge with a 40-0 demolition in Sunday's final at Sydney's Olympic stadium.

Smith was sorely missed by the Storm after being suspended for two weeks for a grapple tackle.

The Test hooker says he is confident the team will be a force next year, despite the loss of key players Israel Folau, Michael Crocker, Jeremy Smith, Antonio Kaufusi and Matt Geyer.

"Obviously they've all contributed immensely to what we've done over the last few years, but we've had to put up with that over the last couple of years," he said.

"But somehow we've found a way to make three grand finals in a row so it's certainly going to drive us to make a fourth final in a row next year."
