Airline defends moves to clear passenger backlog

Jetstar has defended the way it handled this week's flight cancellations and delays.

About 700 passengers flying in and out of the state were left stranded on Sunday after a power surge affected the airline's computer system.

Jetstar's corporate relations manager, Simon Westaway, has told ABC Local Radio the airline even investigated chartering aircraft.

"Qantas was full, Virgin was full, we had people going out of Devonport yesterday from Launceston as we did the recovery there," Mr Westaway said.

"So I think we've utilised the resources at our disposal.

"We have sound commerecial arrangements with Virgin and obviously our parent company to move customers in time of need and I think we did everything we possibly could."

The final 40 passengers left stranded in Hobart flew out of the state this morning,
