Fears budget cuts will affect police station funding

Posted October 7, 2008 12:00:00

There is concern budget cuts foreshadowed by the New South Wales Government will affect funding for the promised Lake Illawarra police station.

Plans were submitted to Shellharbour council in June this year for a $17 million building at a recently purchased site at Oak Flats.

The current station at Warilla was built 30 years ago to accommodate 60 officers, but it now houses close to 200.

The Member for Shellharbour, Lylea McMahon, said she has met both the Treasurer and the Police Minister and expects the Government to maintain its commitment.

"Plans are certainly in the final stages for the police station and in fact I've seen some of those plans, so as I said it's my expectation that this commitment will be delivered on," Ms McMahon said.

"I'll be fighting to ensure that it is."
