Campbell hopes for rail ticket price drop

New South Wales Transport Minister David Campbell says he is hopeful there will be a further easing of proposed increases in train fares for the Illawarra and southern highlands.
The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) has recommended fare increases of up to $10 for weekly tickets between Wollongong and Sydney.
Mr Campbell says the proposed increase in fares announced in a draft determination by the tribunal last week can be dropped again for those travelling long distances.
"I expressed the concern that there was an inequitable proposed increase in fares for those who travel a long way on the network from areas like the Illawarra, the western suburbs of Sydney and the central coast," he said.
"I did encourage people in the community to make those submissions to IPART in response to that draft determination."
