Oppn grills Govt over environmental stance

There was an environmental tone to Question Time in State Parliament today as Labor defector Ronan Lee took his place as a Greens MP.

"[I have a] great sense of excitement - this is a great day for the environment," he said.

"It's an opportunity for people to be talking and thinking about how they will deliver for the environment."

Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg asked if the Government will go ahead with the Traveston Crossing Dam, even at the cost of Green preferences.

"Just to make it very clear to the Greens," he said.

Sustainability Minister Andrew McNamara says the dam is needed whether or not the Government loses Green support.

"It would be a disgrace to say, 'well that's something we should take into account'," he said.

Premier Anna Bligh says the dam still requires federal approval.

"If it gets the tick, it will be a part of Queensland's water supply," she said.

She says 80 per cent of the land needed for the dam has been purchased.
