Motorcycles stolen during Lennox Head rally

Posted October 7, 2008 15:00:00

Police say six bike thefts marred an otherwise peaceful and successful motorbike rally in Lennox Head at the weekend.

Inspector Bill McKenna says the motorcycles were taken from locked garages and so far only one, a limited edition Harley Davidson worth $60,000, has been recovered.

He says locks on the the garages were forced and there have been forensic examinations of the premises.

Inspector McKenna says it is too early to say if the thefts were the work of an organised gang.

"It appears premeditated, they've come to the area and managed to steal six motorbikes," he said.

"There was approximately 2,000 to 3,000 Harley owners here.

"It was a very successful and enjoyable weekend, but unfortunately for a number of the owners of those motorcycles now, we've had a number of those motorcycles stolen."
