Emergency services misusers to face fines, jail

Posted October 7, 2008 21:30:00

The Queensland Government has introduced legislation to increase the penalties for misusing the Ambulance and Fire services.

Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts has told Parliament that too many people are using the ambulance service for non-life threatening injuries like ear aches.

He says an investigation officer will determine if the ambulance or fire services have been misused.

People who are found to have misused the service face a fine or up to a year in jail.
