Mining ban bill introduced in Qld Parliament

Posted October 7, 2008 23:00:00

The State Parliament has introduced legislation to impose a 20-year moratorium on shale oil mining at MacFarlane, near Proserpine in north Queensland.

Mines Minister Geoff Wilson announced the ban in August saying he was concerned about the local environment.

And the Government has introduced a bill to formally pass powers to the Commonwealth as a part of the Murray-Darling Basin Agreement.
