Three Indian bar workers have been arrested over the death of a Western Australian tourist in the Goa beach resort area.

The 65-year-old man died almost 12 hours after being involved in a brawl.

Police in the Goan town of Calangute say the death of Australian tourist John Gibb Kelly is being investigated as a murder.

Mr Kelly died while being treated for injuries he received in a fight at a beachside restaurant in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Two waiters and a security guard from the restaurant have been arrested.

Police say Mr Kelly had been in Goa since September 29, a day after arriving in India.

Mr Kelly's passport indicates he was born in Scotland and his visa was issued in Canberra.
