Sandalwood factory to open to public

Posted October 10, 2008 14:00:00

The Mount Romance sandalwood factory will open its doors to the public for the first time this weekend to celebrate 10 years of production.

Mount Romance was established in Albany in 1993 and is now the world's largest producer of Australian sandalwood products.

The company was recently sold to the Perth-based Tropical Forestry Services for just under $30 million.

The company's general manager, David Brocklehurst, says Mount Romance first broke into the international perfume markets 10 years ago this Sunday.

"For a regional company to break into the global market and have customers as far afield as Minneapolis in the US, Santiago, Buenos Aires, and of course Europe, Beijing, all over the world, so for us to break all of those markets from Albany is a major achievement," he said.
