Warriors in charge at home

Posted October 10, 2008 21:20:00

Western Australia was in a strong position at stumps on the first day of its opening Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales at the WACA ground.

The Warriors were 3 for 106 in their first innings, after the home side dismissed the Blues for a paltry 177 earlier in the day.

Marcus North and Trent Kelly were the not out batsman for Western Australia at the close of the first day's play on 24 and 0 respectively.

The Blues were in trouble from the start of the day, losing their first wicket in the ninth over and falling to 5 for 36 after 21 overs.

Australian fast bowler Nathan Bracken was the only Blue to show any sure resistance against the Warriors bowlers, smashing 64 off 45 balls in a late cameo that bolstered his side's total.

Steve Magoffin was the pick of the Warriors' bowlers with 4 for 36, while Arron Crawford claimed 3 for 36.
