Posted October 11, 2008 14:19:00

A new suburb in Townsville in north Queensland will be named in honour of General Peter Cosgrove.

The 250 hectare residential development will carry his name in recognition of his leading role in the Cyclone Larry recovery effort.

The former Defence Force chief served in Townsville in the mid 1980s and lived in nearby Kirwin with his young family.
