A Queensland man has been charged with assaulting an off-duty police officer on the state's central coast earlier this evening.

The officers has suffered a bruised cheek after he was allegedly punched in the face by a 25 -year old man, in a Gladstone hotel at around 6.30pm AEST.

The man then also allegedly assaulted a hotel staff member.

He has been charged with two counts of assault and will appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court on October 30.
