HSC students turn to the web for help

Posted October 12, 2008 08:00:00

The New South Wales Education Minister says record numbers of HSC students have been preparing for their exams online.

Around 68,000 students are expected to sit the Higher School Certificate exams this year, which are scheduled to begin later this week.

Education Minister Verity Firth says the Board of Studies Student Help website has been widely used in the lead-up to the exams.

"In the last two weeks, HSC students have done 300,000 online practice tests, and collectively they've answered a massive six million questions," she said.

"So we know that our IT-savvy kids have are accessing this website, and really using it for exactly what it's meant to be used for."

Meanwhile, Ms Firth says students should try and stay healthy through the exam period.

"Our message really to them is to eat well, to get plenty of rest over the coming week and during the exams," she said.

"And also while you make your best attempt at the exams and obviously study hard, we are saying to students and to families, please keep these exams in perspective.

"Whatever the outcome there are many pathways to further education and to your chosen career."
