Company in hot water over Channel Nine licensing breach

Australian media regulator ACMA says the company that owns Darwin's Channel Nine television license is in breach of federal legislation and must act to avoid being charged with an offence.

CVC Group has interests in Publishing and Broadcasting Limited, which has 11 companies that could exercise control over analog and digital television licences in Darwin.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority says being in a position to control more than one commercial television license violates the federal Broadcasting Services Act.

ACMA has issued a directive for CVC Group to take action within one year to rectify the breach.

The ABC is seeking comment from CVC Group.
