Retired policeman admits stealing rare chopper

Posted October 15, 2008 13:29:00

A former police officer has pleaded guilty to stealing a rare helicopter in April this year.

Mark Cavanagh, 48, from Port Macquarie has been charged with break-and-enter after he stole a Kiowa helicopter from a Bankstown hanger, in Sydney's south-west.

The helicopter was eventually found at Taree Airport in May.

Police have confirmed he is a retired officer from Kempsey station who left on sick leave last year.

The 48-year-old is due to be sentenced next month.
