Community groups with Self-help installations are entitled to rebroadcast any new broadcasting services intended for their area, as they become available.
It is necessary to apply to ACMA for a transmitter licence for each additional transmitter, this is the case whether signals are received terrestrially or by satellite.
A transmitter licence cannot usually be transferred to another party. Once advice of a change is received from the current licence holder, ACMA arranges to cancel the original licence and issue a new one.
If the Self-help system is no longer required, the licence holder should advise ACMA, which will arrange for the licence to be cancelled. Refunds may apply if the license fees have been paid in advance for more than one year, which has not been utilised.
A licence can also be suspended if there are reasonable grounds. Such action could occur where the facility is being operated in breach of the licence conditions.
