Change in Queensland
|
The federal election of November 2007 gave us a Queenslander as Prime Minister and a Queenslander as Treasurer. Since then, a Queenslander has been appointed Governor General. The Queensland capture of key political offices has put an end to jokes about banana benders and pineapple politics and symbolises the state's growing economic and demographic weight within the Australian federation. In a forum recorded at this year's Melbourne Writers Festival, five prominent Queenslanders discuss five decades of change in their home state.
