Comparing Schools and national skills testing
If you complete Year 12, it's reasonable to expect you have basic skills in literacy and numeracy.
But even after thirteen years of schooling, not all students will have these basic skills, according to Professor Geoff Masters.
Speaking at the ACER education conference this week he proposed national skills testing right through secondary school.
He also supported Education Minister Julia Gillard's proposal for a comparison of school performance.
