40 Years On - Long Tan

The battle of Long Tan commemorated after 40 years with a live concert in Vietnam, featuring John Schumann.

Forty years after the battle of Long Tan, Australian war veterans returned to Vietnam, some for the first time since 1966. A commemorative ceremony at the Long Tan Cross marked the occasion, followed by a concert at the Vung Tau greyhound racing track featuring John Schumann (pictured right), who penned what has become the Vietnam veterans' anthem, 'I was only 19'. The Wounding Song

The Wounding SongInto the Music explores the wild and vibrant Maltese vernacular singing known as Ghana in this special feature by Australian composer Robert Iolini. Ghana is a rebellious music of survival, which evokes an Arabic past and features improvising rhyming duels similar to rap music. Captured in rare field recordings, Arabic modal scales and European chord progressions intermix freely.
