Swindled: the dark history of food fraud

The world was scandalised recently when news broke that milk adulterated with the toxic chemical melamine had killed four and poisoned many thousands of Chinese babies. This week, the US issued a nationwide 'import alert' for Chinese-made food products.

Bee Wilson was not surprised by the scandal. She says, 'being cheated over food is one of the most universal human experiences.'
