Good red meat prices expected for producers in 2009
Meat prices are set to rise in 2009 according to the red meat action group.
Last year producers, fed up with low prices paid for meat in WA were trucking their stock across the Nullarbor to be sold in the eastern states.
But Gary Buller from the red meat action group says good seasonal conditions for producers will see less forced sales in 2009, eventually pushing up prices in WA.
Frost downgrades harvest estimates
Cooperative Bulk Handling's (CBH) Kwinana east zone will be down 200,000 tonnes due to frost affected grain.
A frost event in late spring around the Narembeen region caused many farmers to not harvest frost affected paddocks or cut them for hay, rather than delivering the grain to the bin.
CBH zone manager Alan Walker says the growers who did manage to harvest frost affected grain delivered it into specially segregated feed four and five stacks.
