Former Beautiful Girls front man Mat McHugh had a serious motorbike accident in LA earlier this year. Broken bones and a punctured lung forced him to stay in bed for about a month.
When he spoke to triple j in October he'd finally made his way home. He was getting around on crutches and was only just starting to play his guitar again.
We're happy to report he's now well down the road to recovery - and he'll be back on stage early next year.
Mat McHugh will be touring his solo album Seperatista around the country, starting in Sydney on February 5th.
Warren Ellis plays violin with the Bad Seeds and also in the trio Dirty Three.
He spoke to triple j this week and reported that, as expected, both he and Nick Cave have plenty of projects planned for 2009
"We're going to go in and do a Grinderman album and I'm going to do a Dirty Three album next year. And there's another theatrical piece and a couple of documentaries and possibly a ballet on the horizon."
London indie band Razorlight have just released their third album - and they’ve announced they’ll be in Australia for the first time at the end of January.
They’ve only scheduled two shows:
Sydney, The Metro - Jan 29 Melbourne, The Hi-Fi Bar - Jan 31
"Muscles is signed to Modular Recordings and his services are still required under that agreement. He was offered a spot at NEVEREVERLAND which still stands and whether he chooses to play or not is his decision. Obviously we would like him to be part of our 10 year celebrations and hope he turns up to perform."
Nevereverland kicks off in Sydney next Saturday 13th December.
The Presets had a massive year touring the world with their album Apocalypso.
Now the duo are back home in Sydney and singer Julian says they're looking forward to some down time.
"We're doing Aussie festivals over the summer and compared to what we've been doing that's practically a holiday. So during the weeks I'm just sitting at home sanding tables and gardening and doing really un-Presety stuff like that."
The boys have three months in Australia before another US tour next March. They plan to start work on a new album later in 2009.
The MONA Festival of Music and Art will run January 9 to 12 and will feature performances from acts like Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, The Saints and Jeff Lang.
The music acts are being curated by Brian Ritchie, original member of the seminal punk folk trio Violent Femmes.
A few months back triple j unearthed a band called [IS].
The won our Unearthed High competition with the song Cult Romance.
Now they're back with a new single - and a new band name.
They're now called Tom Ugly and band leader Tom Parisi explained the change.
"It's mostly due to the fact that you can't search [IS]. It's completely unsearchable on the internet. Plus we like the name anyway, Tom Ugly. And it suits the format of the way we write."
Tom says the band are now working on their live show and plan to tour early next year. Then he'll focus on finishing his last year of high school.
Canadian hardcore band F**ked Up released a double album this year.
It got them great reviews around the world - and a cover shot on the British music mag NME.
Singer Damian told Stu Harvey that of course - he made sure his family got to see it.
"There's a store in Toronto, a really kind of hip CD music store. They sell the NME there and so I went in one day and bought five copies to give to my parents and it felt really weird. I kind of went in there hoping I'd run in to Feist or one of the dudes from Broken Social Scene. Like - oh don't mind me, I'm just buying myself on the NME."
Damian also broke the news that we'll be getting a F**ked Up tour very soon.
"We are going to be in Australia in March."
No dates or venue details have been confirmed yet so keep an eye on our gig guide in coming weeks.
Ben Kweller will put out a new album at the end of January.
Titled Changing Horses, Kweller says it takes him back to his country music roots, with influences from artists like Garth Brooks and Neil Young.
"Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson — those guys ruled radio when I was 11. So some of the first songs I wrote as a kid, before I got into punk rock and underground bands, were country songs."
The album was recorded over eleven days and done pretty much live to two-track tape.
The first single will be a song called Sawdust Man and you'll hear it on triple j next week.
