Andy Muirhead
Andy Muirhead is a former biologist, who loves being a professional stand-up comic. It is a surprising combination of occupations, but his credentials prove he is well qualified in both.
Born in the Victorian town of Sale, Andy always knew it would not be long before he would pack his things and move to the bright lights of a big city. And so it was that he chose to move to Hobart where he gained his Bachelor of Science in Zoology.
He left Tasmania to travel, dropping in on Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Africa, Greece and the UK before returning to Hobart to work as a biologist for a large forestry company.
Working in Tassie’s deepest darkest forests has its good points, but it can also be a tad repetitive, so he took to writing and performing stand-up comedy in an effort to stave off encroaching boredom.
A stalwart of the Hobart Comedy Festival since 2002, Andy has developed into one of the most promising new stand-up comedians in the country.
His talent was further recognised in 2005, when he was chosen by the Melbourne International Comedy Festival to be part of the prestigious Comedy Zone show.
In 2006 he is performing at both the Adelaide Fringe Festival and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Although obviously no stranger to the limelight, Collectors is his first foray into the world of television. And after a year in the 6.30pm time slot, he is ready to make the move to prime time.
His wit, irresistible charm and insatiable curiosity about all things obscure, make him an ideal host for this program.
