This week on Collectors: model trains in a model setting; the value and beauty of antique jewels; and the shimmering gem of Tasmania.
But first up, here’s Justin Murphy, out in the auction rooms with an Art Deco Black Lady Lamp. The panel have a go at guessing what it will fetch at auction...
Now it’s time for this week’s passionate collector. Tom Dwyer lives in what looks pretty much like a toyshop - boxed sets of vintage “O” gauge Hornby trains and rolling stock everywhere, brand new, wheels never been on a track - a train collectors’ paradise! And then there are the layouts! Tom visits the studio to show Andy and the panel some of his prized possessions.
To this week’s Mystery Item. Have a close look, try to figure it out...and have a listen to the panel’s guesses.
It’s time for another object from the vast collection at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and Niccole Warren, our collection commentator, is with the panel to tell us all about it. It looks like we’ve finally hit rock bottom with this - crocoite!
Over to Gordon Brown who is taking us into Aladdin’s cave - the brilliantly cut world of antique jewellery. Tasmanian jeweller Paul Thompson visits the studio and brings with him some fabulous period jewellery examples.
Collectors, where our philosophy is, as Confucious says, “the longest journey begins with a single step”...so for those of you who don’t yet collect, go on, make the leap! You’re going to love the trip!
