This week on Collectors: kitchen capers - culinary collectables from the pantry; beyond the bean bag - the 1970s still shine; and, at ease soldier - 190 years of military history.
But first up, Justin Murphy is out in the auction rooms. Under the Hammer this week is a Dictaphone. Will the panel guess its selling price at auction?
Now it’s time for this week’s passionate collector. Judith Sweet is aptly named. She has been cooking succulent food for grateful gluttons since she was 10 years old. In a 30 year career that includes teaching, broadcasting and running restaurants, she has amassed a collection of culinary objects that would fill several kitchens.
And now a segment we’re calling “Eclectic”. It’s for all of those weird and wonderful collections of “stuff” that you never knew existed! Today it’s pure nostalgia. This is for all of you who grew up in the swinging sixties and the chest hair-shaving, tight pant-wearing disco seventies. If you have ever wondered what happened to your favourite mini skirt, lava lamp, disco ball or velour bean bag...wonder no more! Alistair Knight and Nicholas Mesiano collect it all.
To a favourite part of the show, this week’s Mystery Object! And this week we have a real ripper! Have a look at this and see if you can work out what it could be!
Over to Gordon and this week he’s gone out and joined the army! Well almost. He’s been out looking at a collection housed in the oldest military barracks in Australia. Anglesea Barracks has been in army hands for almost 200 years! In that time the soldiers there have amassed a huge collection of militaria, artillery, photographs, uniforms...in fact everything to do with the Australian Army as Gordon found out.
Collectors, where our philosophy is: “maybe all that glistens is not gold”. But so what? Everything is collectable!
