This week on Collectors: every boy’s joy - model cars galore; Gordon checks the family silver; and the history of our studio - the Bond Store.
But first up, Justin Murphy is out in the auction rooms. Under the Hammer this week is a carved head! Will the panel guess its selling price?
Now it’s time for this week’s passionate collector and this is what so many collectors have been asking for. Garth Tew is a non-stop, global collector of die-cast model cars. He’ll take anything on four wheels or more, little or big, from all over the world. He says he doesn’t specialise although at a glance he does seem to have rather a lot of Citroens.
We are fortunate enough to look at another piece from the Tasmanian Museum’s Collection but this one’s a bit different. Have you ever been watching the show and noticed the graffiti on our set? Not the stuff that says “Gordon is the auction king” or “kiss my Mystery Object” - that’s just the crew getting bored. No, what you may have noticed is the blue writing. You see this is the Bond Store at the Tasmanian Museum and it’s got a unique history all of its own. In fact every piece of furniture, barrel of rum and or keg of powder that was brought into the Van Diemen’s Land colony, passed through this very building. Niccole Warren joins the gang to take us further into the history of the Bond Store.
Can you guess this week’s Mystery Object? Have a close look and try to beat the panel with you guesses.
Now it’s over to Gordon who’s been taking a close look at that most common of collections - the family silver. If you’ve ever wondered what those tiny hallmarks mean, this is for you.
Collectors, where our philosophy is: “it’s not how big it is, its how you display it that counts” - your collection that is.
