Under The Hammer this week is a very rare French doll. But it's not just any French doll.
At first is is thought this doll is a Jumeau doll - a famous part of the French doll trade in the nineteenth century, particularly for their fashionable late nineteenth century couturier dresses.
But the bidding is brisk and the price is skyrocketing. It soon becomes evident that this is actually a Bru Brevette doll. These dolls were only made in 1879 and 1880 and it is thought there are fewer than ten left in the world today.
It sells at auction for $15,000.
